The theme of Różycki's paintings is growing up in the countryside in economic and social exclusion along with the shame associated with the situation. An important motif in his paintings is the story of his relationship with his brother, with whom he communicates thanks to his car. They take turns driving it, as illustrated by the artist painting the two steering wheels. Where he comes from, the car is a symbol of class status but, at the same time, it easily becomes a kind of substitute home on the exhausting commutes to Warsaw. Using a car is sometimes the only way to get out of smaller towns where public transport has been eliminated.

Patryk Różycki

Patryk Różycki is an interdisciplinary artist: he paints, writes, creates performances, podcasts and videos, is an educator and curator of the Kick Off Perfo performance festival and the Baza festival of short, experimental film forms. His works deal with private themes and speak about emotions and relationships in a first-person narrative. He mainly uses images to help him define and understand his own position in society and culture. He deals with male sexuality, shame - in the wider area of social life - and the structure of the family and its impact on the individual. He believes that everyone is vulnerable and that art allows us to communicate with others in an honest and open way. In 2017, he completed his master's degree at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, with a specialisation in intermedia. He has been exhibiting in Poland since 2016.
